Sundial on the southwest wall of the church. Parish Church of St. Hillarus was first mentioned in domestic chronicles in 1164, although it existed before. It is also mentioned in the Dubrovnik Statute from 1272. This old church became a parish church on August 20, 1449. The church was badly damaged in the great earthquake of 1667, and was rebuilt in 1683 in the Baroque style. It was damaged again in the earthquakes of 1823 and 1824. There is a steeple on the church, probably built at the same time as the church itself. During the First World War, the bells were taken away and re-melted into cannons, later new bells were bought, which could not fit into the steeple, so it was decided to build a new one. The foundation stone was blessed on November 30, 1930, and the work was completed and blessed on November 1, 1934. There are three places for bells on the steeple, but only one is filled with a bell from 1888, made in Split.
St. Hillarus, a hermit and saint, was born in 191 in Palestine, and according to legend, he killed a dragon on the shore of Mlini and freed this region from paganism. That's how St. Hillarus baptized the Illyrians in IV. century. According to historical sources, the Illyrians were shepherds and were afraid of snakes. In honor of St. Hillarus a church was built and thus he became the patron of Mlini, and on the big bell dedicated to him it is written: "I remind the people, St. Hillarus, that you have destroyed the dragon of paganism here. MCMXXV".
